Appreciating Talents

There are so much talented people out there. Personally, I believe that everyone in the world is talented at something, whether we are aware of it or not.

The picture on the left was drawn by one of my very good friends. I've seen her other works and just loved it, wishing that I had her talents. Unfortunately, I do not.

Though I am not as talented as the other, I do, however, would like to call myself an Art Enthusiast.

If unaware, an Art Enthusiast is someone who appreciates art in all forms created (i.e. sketches, paintings, poetry, literature, music, etc..). But I wasn't always appreciative.

Like I have mentioned, I do wish I had amazing talents like many of the people I encounter in my lifetime. In all honesty, I would at times feel so discouraged because I wouldn't be able to draw what I imagine in my head. It is never right and it just feels so complicated. Call me envious; I wouldn't deny it. For a while, anything I tried to do, whether it be singing, dancing, drawing, I would always feel that there was someone else better than me so why try.

It was a lot of insecurities. But visiting the Philippines one day (many years ago), I noticed the various art talents that were not always appreciated. That got me thinking. If I can't get over my insecurities and learn to appreciate what others can do, then how can I expect others to appreciate my talents? It was a lesson I had to figure out on my own at a pre-adolescent age; on the other hand, it was a lesson I was glad to learn.

Yes, there is no doubt that there will be someone better than you at something. For a little bit, you could say it's inspirational; however, there could possibly be a feeling of jealousy hidden somewhere in there.

Nevertheless, here is my advice:
Don't feel discouraged and less talented. Look at this as a challenge and motivation for you to better yourself if you wanted. But also, my main suggestion is to always believe that what you do is to EXPRESS yourself more than to impress others.

Learning to accept that one is purely talented at being just themselves will grasp the idea of pure happiness. Be happy with what you got and work for what you want to achieve.

Express. Don't impress.

(I would also like to personally thank my friend for this amazing drawing! Keep up the good work! You are so talented and such an inspiration. I wouldn't have been able to write this if it weren't for your awesome gifts God blessed you with! hwaiting~ <3 )
